01 Old watercolour header
02 New gouache header
I had had my old watercolour header on the site for years and definitely felt like it had served it’s purpose, but the blog just felt as though it needed a bit of refresh so I began sketching out a new header. The new layout was inspired by a recent trip to Hawaii where I came across so many beautiful, intricate fabric designs and flowers. My aim was to capture some of that vibrancy and implement a tropical palette into the new design. I used gouache to block some of those solid, chalky colours in, this type of paint works great for layering but it dries really fast! I also felt that it’s a bit less forgiving on the paint brushes compared to watercolour but I am still trying to perfect my ratios at the moment. The css still needs a bit of tweaking I feel, but on the whole I’m happy. And now I’ve got it live, it makes me even more excited to post new things.
Like so many other people I feel like I’ve had a bit of a break from blogging recently, but I’ve left it just the right amount of time for everything to feel new and exciting again – just like how it was in the beginning.
A lot has definitely changed since last year, including a change in career. I’m now in a much more creative job – which I love! So what this means is I’ll now have so many exciting little projects to share with you all!
My latest travel diary post should also be up on the blog soon too, but if you want to see more illustration work, you can always click here.
I hope you’ve all been keeping well and have not forgotten me! 🙂
