I’m a multi-disciplinary Designer based between Sheffield and Cebu.
Back in July 2018 I decided to make the leap from designing at an agency to freelancing. It was something I had wanted to do for a long time, not just for the prospect of freedom and flexibility but to avoid the fear of not knowing how far I could grow a business of my own. My half Filipino / half British background definitely played a huge role in my decision as I’ve always associated travelling with happiness. As a child the highlight of my year would always be travelling to the Philippines to be reunited with family. Being in a state of cultural limbo can be a strange thing, but I like to embrace the unique perspectives of being both a local and a foreigner and this often trickles down into my design work.
With every place you visit, there’s always something new to learn and something that inevitably challenges the way you look at things. Refreshing the mind can be a wonderful thing and finding inspiration in new places can push your creativity beyond the realms of what you thought was possible.
I am endlessly inspired by places I’ve travelled to, places I’ve dreamed about and beautiful ephemera from the past. I love minimalism but I also love using colour and typography to give brands their distinctive character and charm. I have always been a bit of a perfectionist and will not leave something alone until it’s just right – even if that means edging a pixel back and forth in 0.001 increments. Ultimately, design should be enjoyed and if we ever work together in the future my goal will always be to create something that you are proud of. This is what drives my design process and it always motivates me to make each project better than the last!
I do however see both sides. It can definitely feel like a daunting process handing your brand over to someone else – especially with all the work it’s taken to get it to where it is today. But sometimes for growth it just helps to have that extra person look at everything objectively with a fresh pair of eyes!
