I’m a multi-disciplinary Designer based between Sheffield and Cebu.
Back in July 2018 I decided to make the leap from designing at an agency to freelancing. It was something I had wanted to do for a long time, not just for the prospect of freedom and flexibility but to avoid the fear of not knowing how far I could grow a business of my own. My half Filipino / half British background definitely played a huge role in my decision as I’ve always associated travelling with happiness. As a child the highlight of my year would always be travelling to the Philippines to be reunited with family. Being in a state of cultural limbo can be a strange thing, but I like to embrace the unique perspectives of being both a local and a foreigner and this often trickles down into my design work.
With every place you visit, there’s always something new to learn and something that inevitably challenges the way you look at things. Refreshing the mind can be a wonderful thing and finding inspiration in new places can push your creativity beyond the realms of what you thought was possible.
I am endlessly inspired by places I’ve travelled to, places I’ve dreamed about and beautiful ephemera from the past. I love minimalism but I also love using colour and typography to give brands their distinctive character and charm. I have always been a bit of a perfectionist and will not leave something alone until it’s just right – even if that means edging a pixel back and forth in 0.001 increments. I want your brand to be something that you’re proud to shout about! Ultimately your happiness and brand success is my happiness and success.
It can feel like a daunting process handing your brand over to someone else – after all, you have worked so hard to get it to this point! But I believe through good communication your vision for the business can easily be broken down into smaller chunks ensuring that everyone is on the same page prior to the start of the design work.
Design has the ability to connect with people in a way that no other medium can. Good design can have a powerful effect on a person’s emotive responses. Great design challenges convention.
