These are my favourite art materials at the moment. I can’t tell you how many different fineliners, pencils, paint brushes I’ve gone through over the years but so far these are the tools that work best for me. There are some areas I still need to branch out on and will likely find better products in the future but when that times come I will do another, updated version of this. It’s also useful to bear in mind, whenever I post an illustration I will always state the materials used – and it’s usually something from this list!

Links for where to buy everything are on the left. If I’ve missed anything please let me know. 🙂

I really love Paperchase – it's hard to go into that store and not buy something! xxx

I am so glad I came across your art blog. Ever since I started graphic designing, I have neglected the pencil and paper. Your work is so amazing and inspiring. I look forward to seeing more of your work, definitely will be following on GFC & Bloglovin.

Yeah they are unfortunately 🙁 but I suppose once you've bought a set you won't have to buy them in bulk again, just replace each one as you use it.

I love art supplies too haha! xxx

I LOVE my cotman watercolours, the colours are so vivid and they go on so well.
I only recently bought myself a set, but I wish I'd bought them years ago after realising how good they were.

Philippa you just killed me!!! Never ever show me drawing and stationary items! Now I feel the need to go to the store and purchase something xD

On a more serious note, it is nice to know what you (or any other artists) like to use for your art (I just wish I was good at using color pencils!). Thumbs up! 😉

Yay! I loveee snooping in on people's favorite art supplies. It's always nice to get an idea of what I can try next, etc. I really love waterbrushes too, haha, even though I use them more as actual brushes and not for the actual barrel part…

One day I'll finally upgrade my watercolors to an artist grade set HAHA.

😀

Omg I do the exact same thing with the water brushes! I had bought normal brushes before but they just left bristles all over – I think it's because they were cheap and cheerful ones. But yeah the water brushes were pretty versatile so I just stuck with those in the end.

Yes they're so worth it! Out of everything on there I'd recommend investing in those first. The colours are really strong.

Oh I've been meaning to ask you, are Micron pens any good? I've been thinking about trying them just because I've seen them all over the interwebz. And I noticed you use them a lot which made me take interest haha 🙂

I like Sakura Microns better than Staedlter pigment liners, only because I think the staedlter ones dry out faster for me. Also, with the Microns I pick specific sizes… I buy the 0.3 and 0.5 size specifically, instead of getting a set of different sizes (.05 is really skinny but too skinny for me). The ink is really nice, especially with moleskine paper, it really glides on the page! And the line weight is very constant. Though I actually have a heavy hand when it comes to drawing with them, so I think I end up breaking the tip (by pushing the tip in too much) before I run out of ink… but overall I think it's a very good quality pen!

I haven't used them recently though, I've been using this waterproof rollerball pen: http://www.amazon.com/Signo-Roller-Retractable-Black-Medium/dp/B002NWH3VW (though I got a 12-pack of the .7mm ones… I think there are thinner ones that I'll order when I run out). Haha I can't really comment much on if I like the quality or not, but it's good enough for me as an inexpensive daily sketching pen.

And yessss, technically I can afford buying that pan set but I think I will wait some more before buying!

(also this is offtopic, you UK people and your xxx's hehe)

Thank you so much, that's incredibly helpful! I think the Staedtler ones are good, but then I suppose I don't have anything else to compare it to. Plus they do sometimes dry out a bit as you're using them – which can be annoying. So I think I will try the Sakura Microns and the rollerball pen like you suggested!

Also, this may interest you (don't know if you saw my tweet the other day): http://artsnacks.co/

But it's called Art Snacks and they basically send you really good art supplies each month. I'm really tempted to subscribe! :B

I am terrible for putting xxx, I swear it's automatic haha!

Yay! Glad I was helpful, though my ultimate cop-out advice is that people have to try out the tools themselves, HAHA. Basically I've been trying to google reviews on people's favorite pens (specifically waterproof ones)!

I've seen the artsnacks thing, actually! I like the concept a lot, but might wait on a subscription, and see other's reviews, because the products currently pictured are ones that I can find for $1.5~3 USD each in an art store (which comes out to be $8~15 for 4-5 products). I think I want to see if they will be sending more rare items.
